Whom did Jesus appear to first, after his resurrection?
He appeared to Mary Magdalene.
Well, she was there looking after his body.
Well, everything points to the fact that she was His wife. Jesus Christ had a relationship with Mary Magdalene that superceded or took precedence over His relationship with the Apostles. What kind of relationship could take precedence or be more important than an Apostolic or a Priesthood relationship? In that male-centered culture, only a relationship with a wife could take precedence over a man's relationship to other priesthood brethren.
Some people and apocryphal writings describe Mary Magdalene as the thirteenth apostle, a title and a position she could only achieve through marriage to Jesus Christ, because females were never given the priesthood in that culture. Females achieved their rights to the priesthood, their callings as prophetesses, and their access to the priesthood through marriage to their priesthood-holding husbands. Mary Magdalene could only have achieved her position of prominence and her position as a prophetess among the Apostles by being married to Jesus Christ.
